Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after that period of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serving game.
He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.
Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
